the real, the random, the rant // five

the real // Will it be a boy or girl? We will soon find out, as Konrad’s baby is getting closer and closer to the due date, May 12th.

The random // 86….

What could this mean? If you can guess, you could win a $250 stillmotion gift certificate that can be used towards fine art prints, collections or education!

the real // Matt Ebenezer. What an amazing guy, and not JUST because of his Australian accent. We had the privilege of spending time with him in California, Las Vegas, Texas and Toronto. He was staying right downtown Toronto so a car was necessary. Keep in mind the driver’s seat was on the wrong side and he was driving on the wrong side of the road, in rush hour, Toronto traffic….all the while filming it all for his wife back home. Pretty brave. We are stoked that he will be guest speaking at our workshops in Australia, February 2010.

the real // Spring has sprung at stillmotion! As exciting as that sounds, really what that means is spring-cleaning and getting more organized for the season. What THAT means is that there is stuff everywhere in our back room.

the random // Even though we see each other almost everyday, all day, we have decided to start having a team lunch meeting, once a week. This just gives us a chance to socialize with one another, rather then always talking about work. This week we had our first team lunch meeting. It consisted of talking (about work, but who can blame us? Were obsessed), laughing together, and some very complicated meal orders – but that’s nothing new.

the random // Is it true? Ray Roman is hiding a secret! I overheard that a certain someone, that shall remain anonymous, called his studio to find Michael Buble BLASTING in the background. Wow Ray, I never knew you had such a sensitive side.

the rant // As I was standing in the very long Tim Horton’s line the other morning I decided to check my e-mail. My eyebrows faced down and I had quite the confused look on my face when reading this, until I saw who it was from. Joe, a very enthusiastic guy that I had the pleasure of meeting in Vegas. Here’s what he had to say about stillmotion:

Dear Patrick, Konrad, Jessica, Michael, and the rest of the Still-Motion Crew,

The following is a late night letter I thought I would send to the entire bunch. I mean if there were 8 of you… you could even do a cool little Brady Bunch intro for the studio… we could re-record the Brady Bunch song… and spoof it. Anyway, like I said this is a rant… or a rumble… basically a rambling of words that I’m writing at 3 am. At the current time… I’ve been up for 3.5 straight weeks (with 2-4 hours of sleep per night). Initially, I thought this had to do with my pre/post excitement from NAB. Then I realized it had to do with my love of StillMotion. Call it a minor obsession, a fetish, fixation, compulsion, Still-Motion mania, a fascination… (or if we’re going to list things the thesaurus associated with an African fetish: Juju, talisman, charm, amulet, effigy, Garret Brown’s voiceover talent being used for the 2010 world cup in South Africa). Yeah that’s right… it’s Garret Brown… going to Canada… talking about Molsen Beer! Anywho… I’ve decided that my new mission in life… is to secretly move to Canada, and join Still Motion. Whether it be as your lens cleaner, your ego booster, or even… your rod shiner! Perhaps even one day… I could work my way up through the ranks of waterboy, steadicam deodorizer, and pedicurist to become a cinematographer. Or better yet! Patrick Moreau.

Anyway… I plan to bring custom cookies made in the likeness of each of your faces next time I visit. See here. No seriously though… if it were permissible to live in a tent outside Still-Motion HQ and work for you guys… I would. I freakin’ love you. And if this email doesn’t make your day… I’m going to have to fire up the camera and green screen aren’t i?
