Educational Experiences for 2012

it took us a little while but we finally got this put together for the blog. many of you have been asking about what educational experiences we’re offering for this year and we haven’t been able to share anything until now but here’s a look at where we’ll be in the coming months.

aside from these workshops and speaking engagements below we are also working on a couple more very exciting  2012 EDU experiences, all of which will be announced here as soon as we finalize the remaining details. stay tuned :)

What: Exposure – Photo & Video Imaging Expo
Where:  Toronto, ON
When: May 25-27th, 2012

we will be on the show floor with our very own booth, and it’s a big one might i add, so come by to check out SMAPP, what all the hype is about and chat with the team about all our EDU offerings for this year. we will also be speaking daily at the show about key techniques for effective storytelling as well as…. how we approach shoots from weddings to commercials to documentaries. to register or find out more info, check out the Exposure website here

What: Vimeo Festival and Awards
Where:  New York City, NY
When: June 7-9th, 2012

we are so excited to be a part of the speaking line up and look forward to sharing our ideas with you. we will be talking about the idea of Proactive Storytelling Instead of Reactive Coverage and sharing our experience in learning to think ahead, adapt on the fly and making decisions that allow us to tell more meaningful, relevant and powerful stories. to register or find out more info, check out the Vimeo website here 

What: POSH retreat
Where:  Scottsdale, AZ
When: Nov 12-14th, 2012

come join us as we share, learn and grow together with a group of female filmmakers in the desert. we will be sharing our approach to storytelling and on how to become a faster, more thoughtful and more confident filmmaker. we will also be hosting a hands-on workshop and challenging you to try out some of these techniques with us. to register, check out their site

What: EVO Experience 5.0
Where:  San Francisco, CA
When: Nov 27-30th, 2012

the evolution experience is one of our premier EDU experiences designed to foster a better understanding of the art of filmmaking. through a deep exploration of the language of film we can better understand storytelling – ultimately giving us more control on the experience we leave our audiences.

there will be a mix of classroom style discussion on light, composition, lens choice, movement, audio as well as a heavy emphasis on hands-on learning through filming several short pieces while being mentored by the stillmotion crew. EVO is designed for filmmakers of all skill levels and although the course itself is taught at a quick pace and advanced level, we only ask that you be passionate about what you do and be excited to learn, share, and grow.

Details: the experience will be 3 days of intense filmmaking fun, hosted in our San Fran studio. it is limited to 16 spots and the investment is 2500 USD per person including all meals for the duration of the workshop. we will be recommending a hotel nearby and arranging for a group rate. for questions regarding the experience email joyce [at] stillmotion.ca or if you’re ready to dive right in contact alicja [at] stillmotion.ca to secure your spot with a retainer.
