Ready, Set. what the SMAPP?!?!

we’ve got news, and the good stuff at that. it’s been a challenge in getting the last 10% of SMAPP but we remain just as excited as ever, perhaps even more so as we move ahead and make SMAPP even stronger. what was holding us back was how SMAPP was performing and how quick it would respond in the field, away from any cell service or wifi. we’ve always envisioned SMAPP to be most valuable in the field, but in order to make that a practical option, it needed to be just as snappy anywhere you wanted to use it. aside from some small glitches, this was our major road block. until now, that is. just this past week we hit a major breakthrough in what was missing. it means a couple portions will need to be redeveloped on a different platform, but we have a very aggressive schedule in place and we are taking this extra time to take SMAPP three steps further.

while we have some redevelopment happening, we can use that time to put a couple more tools on the launch list. while these were always a part of the dream, due to time and tech constraints we had a hard time making them a reality. until now, that is, and with our recent breakthroughs we can make some of these happen. the one we are most excited about is a new tool we are calling Ready, Set.

Ready, Set has two related, yet unique tools within it. the first is the option to create a shot list. you can attach photos, assign a camera tool, and select a focal length. we also wanted to make sure you could have multiple headings, which might sound minor, but it lets you break down your shot list by shooter or location, as an example. the other half of Ready, Set is the packing list. this is similar in the list and heading nature, but with the packing list you can add a label to group your tools into who packs what or what goes into the same bag. we also created a status bar so you can quickly see how far along you are.

the best part of Ready, Set? both the shot and packing list can be shared and synced. i can create a shot list and share it with our team and as we get shots and check them off, SMAPP will sync and update across users. or create a packing list, share it with your team, and use the syncing to see what everybody has packed.

some early mockups for the Ready, Set function in SMAPP. please note that the final launch version will contain more awesomeness than shown above.

every part of SMAPP was designed from the challenges we constantly see in the field, both personally and those we hear about from others. we’ve been advised that Ready, Set is fully-featured enough to be it’s own app, and while we’d like to believe that to be true, we’ll be releasing it as part of SMAPP to create an entire solution that helps you with tools, info, and education. learn more about compression and exaggeration, read up on opinions and alternatives to the 70-200, or get help choosing an effective focal length – just a small sample of what’s possible with SMAPP all while in field.

our launch delay is not what we had hoped for but we are absolutely making the best of it. that means more tools and a better experience for you. an update on timing next Tuesday right here on the blog.

I’m running the SMAPP App on my iPad and my iPhone… I (proudly) setup a “gear” list on my iPad, then I went to my iPhone and noticed that it wasn’t there…

I guess since there’s no “account” setup for the SMAPP, there must not be a way for the content I create to transfer from one device to another, right?

I wish (maybe there is) there was a way to have the Gear List I created on my iPad somehow synch up with my Gear List on my iPhone… Any thoughts?

What’s the word on iPad support?

Don’t get me wrong, I am stoked for the iPhone app and will be satisfied with that, but there are times when I will want to watch a tutorial or make a shot list on my iPad. I’m excited for what you are doing and love what I have seen so far. Keep up the good work!
