filmmaking isn’t easy. often times it’s hard work, long hours and a lot of time away from home but we do it because we love it. we would walk into any room and immediately start looking at the light, bounce ideas off each other for story concepts over dinner and read tech reviews on our phone while we stand in line at the airports; all these things come into play because we live and breathe film. we don’t do it because we have to, we do it because it’s become a part of who we are.
a few of us at stillmotion are always on the lookout for things like old film canisters, vintage slates and things that relate to the film world that would speak to the filmmaker in us. recently we discovered Della Luce, a company that makes apparel for creatives in the film world, and we wanted to share that with other filmmakers out there. yes they have some neat designs that we love but what really caught our attention though was the fact that the whole idea behind these tees spawned from their love for film, not design. see the guys over at Della Luce are filmmakers first, apparel designers second. Matt is a DP and Kendal is a director / DP and as Matt puts it they “see filmmaking as not just a job, it really is a lifestyle” so the line of tees and shirts they’ve designed reflects that very passion and idea.
if you know us you’re know we’ll do pretty much anything to get the shot. we’ve been known to be rough with our gear and that often means we are down on the floor, up climbing on top of things and getting ourselves into particular spaces just to get a shot so being comfortable in what we wear to shoots is huge. we’ve been on shoots in these tees recently during hot summer days and they are not only comfortable but also breathable to keep us cool.
because they themselves are filmmakers, the guys behind Della Luce understand what it’s like to be on set for 16 hours and have designed shirts that would be something they would wear. to me their approach to Della Luce is just like ours behind building SMAPP: the idea came from the need for something we ourselves would use on shoots and we’ve since worked to make it come to life. when you pour your heart into something you believe in, good things happen and we are so glad to see that Della Luce is sharing their passion with the rest of us in the community.
