A couple times a year we get to host fifteen filmmakers for a crazy, intimate 4-day filmmaking fiesta we call EVO.
Since participating in EVO, Gwyn has quit his job and dived head first into his independent filmmaking career… and he shows no signs of slowing down.
… it’s a paradigm shift on every level of study.
Gwyn’s confidence over the last year has radically transformed the way he approaches his craft – and it’s showing in his remarkable transition into the full-time filmmaking world.
And that’s exactly what we designed EVO to be: an experience that will change your life, and take the quality of your filmmaking to the next level.
Gwyn is just one of many EVO attendees whose lives have changed drastically since attending the workshop. So many of our students leave this workshop with an entirely new outlook on storytelling.
We survey everyone anonymously about what they learned when they are done:
Not once did the environment ever feel corporate or uninviting and everyone was there to give 100%. Everyone is motivated by passion and not because it’s a job to pay bills. Stillmotion is a family.
It’s not about the gear, it’s about the story!!
The business “seminar” with Baker and Justin was amazing!! But mostly it was being surrounded by so many creative people, both attendees and the SM group, who understand what it’s like to be driven and obsessed with improving our skills.
We love reading what our students have to say after the workshop… and we always make improvements based on their feedback so that we can make this experience worth every penny, and every minute.
So… what goes on at EVO?
We know from experience that the only way to really get better at making films is to just get in there and do it. That’s how we’re able to cram so much experience in a 4-day workshop: we throw you in there.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect during each day of EVO…
For the full breakdown of the experience, visit our EVO home page!
Day 1: Cram everything we know into one day of teaching.
This is the most traditional, “workshop-y” day of EVO, where we walk you through every step of production, gear, storytelling, and even a late night business chat (always a fun bonus).
When people ask “How would Stillmotion approach _________”… well, this day answers that for nearly every topic you can imagine. It’s the foundation for the action of the following 3 days.
Day 2: Teams, challenges, and client introductions.
As you walk in on the second day, your EVO teammates (each team has 5 students) will be assigned and together you’ll go through some initial interview, audio, and lighting challenges. This is where you’ll learn how to bond and unite as a team – to accomplish tough goals on seemingly impossible deadline.
Next, the real game begins – as an actual representative from your charity shows up for a pre-interview and information gathering meeting. Pre-production starts now – and you’ll walk through a guided set of worksheets late into the night. We believe this is where storytellers are made – before you even pick up a camera!
Day 3: Shoot day!
Your pre-production afternoon and evening will pay off starting early in the morning of shoot day. Everything leads up to this big day, where you and your team will head to your charity and conduct interviews, grab b-roll, and get all the shots you need to make your story come to life. Get ready to start editing right after dinner!
Day 4: Meet that deadline!
You’ll be working up until the last minute to finish all of the post-production for your film… and you’ll feel an incredible sense of relief once you export. You and your team will present the final product to the whole group, we’ll give away some prizes, and then… it’s party time.
Again, this is just a teaser of the schedule – for the full breakdown of the experience, visit our EVO home page!
So… are you ready?
This experience is one that will force you to work your ass off.
We’re giving you and your teammates just 3 days to produce a real 2-3 minute film for a real client… that’s really intense!
We bring our entire staff on board to lead each group (2 instructors per 5 members – and more support for the event happenings), offer priceless advice, and challenge you every step of the way… but ultimately it’s up to you and your teammates to make your story happen.
You’ll be taken out of your comfort zone time and time again, because we know that this is what it takes to really get better at something. We’ve seen the difference that this workshop can make for filmmakers, and we keep doing it because we love watching our attendees discover an entirely new approach to story.
And if you’re looking to revolutionize your work… it would be wise to act now.
We have 4-5 seats left (as of this post going live) for our next EVO at the end of July / beginning of August.
We’d love to do more this year – but as of now it’s looking like this will be the last one this year (we have a busy end of year – hopefully some time opens up).
So… ready to let go of whatever had been holding you back, and dive in head first?
Ready to tell stories that matter?
Congrats to Gwyn – and all the friends we met at the last EVO.
If you have a second, congratulate him on the leap in the comments below. ;)
We can’t wait to capture more of these transformations!
