with that konrad has decided to go down a new path and pursue his own studio. we are both saddened to lose such a great friend, and so very happy for the bright future that lies ahead for the one we call krazy with a k.

for stillmotion this also means a new path will be created. we are very excited for what lies ahead and in the coming weeks we will have some exciting things to share about the future of SM.

they met eight years ago while studying physics in high school. hagit caught jared’s eye back then and, as they say, they’ve been in love ever since. when we arrived on their wedding day, within minutes it was so apparent just how in love they were. they were both pretty much speechless when they first met in the morning. from mom’s reaction, you can see just how much emotion was in that room. it was such an awesome day. here is a the trailer they are sending out to friends and family.

lori and marco had a very lively group. they were full of energy and to be honest, they were very industrious. you’ll notice that in their photos, all the guys have ties that are no longer than 8 inches. at first, i thought this was an attempt at being unique, hiding extra short ties under their vests, but in fact, they really just wanted to have big knots. so we got a little goofy with it…

Top 25 Most Influential Wedding Cinematographers in the world - When we got a call from Steve Nathans-Kelly at EventDV magazine letting us know that Patrick had been voted by his peers as one of the Top 25 Wedding Cinematographers in the world, I’m pretty sure we all ran around the house screaming “Yeeeeah!!” – It’s so exciting that he really is getting the recognition he deserves from our industry. People have always commented on how great the work we produce is, but it’s wonderful to have it come one of the large international industry associations. Everyone here at StillMotion are so very proud of him. Also, a huge thanks to Michael and Tony who shot virtually every wedding in 2007 with Patrick and played such a huge role in this award and our continued success.

A New StillMotion HQ - This one probably isn’t as much of secret with John going around with a box on his head telling everybody about it. However, what we have built is so much more than just an office in Mississauga. With the grand opening being this evening, we can’t post any imagery of the diggs yet, but next week we will be doing a “blog post a day” featuring one of the cool rooms every day. From the theater, to the gallery, and the awesome new shooting space in the back- it will be very exciting to share it with all of you.

Four 4Ever Diamond Artistic Achievements Awards - A couple weeks ago at a video conference in Florida, we won 4 first place awards for our work in 2007! Unfortunately we were not able to attend the conference personally as we were so busy with ‘the secret’ but we are very grateful to have done so well. On May 26th, 2007 we filmed Amy + Alex’s wedding here in Toronto. Now, about nine months later, their wedding film has won a total of 4 international awards from multiple organizations, including 3 first place awards! For those of you who want to see their highlights, it can be found on the blog here. The Colaneri love story also won first place at the 4Ever group, giving it a total of 2 international awards.

StillMotion Bridal Network - This will consist of four main parts; a regular StillMotion bridal night, an online StillMotion bridal forum, greater accessibility to the wonderful vendors we work with, and guest blog posts written by some of our brides. Expect to see more about this in the coming weeks.

Premiere Night - Two big parts of the new studio are the gallery and the theater. We are going to use these together to allow you to bring in your family and friends for the debut of your wedding photo and cinema! This option will be available to all of our future bride at no additional cost. More about this when we can post pictures…

We finally joined the 21st century! - We now accept debit and credit cards. Sorry this one took so long but banks aren’t always the easiest to deal with :)

Our Own Customized Online Proofing System - John has been working hard to getting his one up in time and it isn’t quite there yet, but expect this very soon.

Online Gift Registries and Gift Certificates - With our new online proofing system and the ability to accept plastic, we now have an automated way to let you sign up with StillMotion as a gift registry. We think this one will be really huge!

We got the cover of EventDV magazine - A while back we had an interview about our studio and the Trash the Dress movement. The article recently appeared in EventDV magazine and Patrick was the first cinematographer to have his picture featured on the cover, something we are very proud of. The picture, while making him look like a muppet, is the same one you see below in the top 25 snippet. Come by our studio to check out the magazine.

SMART! - We got a new company car. The fuel efficiency of our hybrid is quite good, but the Smart is fun to drive and even better on gas. For all of our GTA weddings, it is great to have a car that can be parked on your lawn.

Our Friends at Canon – While we technically can’t talk about this yet, and will probably need to delete this portion by Monday morning, we just have to say in a very vague and convoluted way – ‘partnership’. This one is big (the lawyers just came in and shuffled John away…).

A big Thanks - Without our wonderful couples, we would be nothing- which is super true. All of this is because of, and for, you. Thank you for all of your continued support. The biggest and most exciting part of this whole blog post is that it will enable us to do so much more for you while also making the process more intimate. So there ya have it folks. We hope it was worth the wait. In typical StillMotion style, more coming soon. Oh, and we can’t wait to debut Stacy and Chiwei’s highlights for the first time in the theatre and on the blog – it is so cool, and coming soon :)

CAUTION – this blog post is long J

if you were to move into stillmotion studio for a week, you would shortly find out that you would hardly be alone. canvases on our walls have seen many sleepless nights at the office. 60-80 weeks are not unusual.

we certainly have what to do at the studio. you will often find one of us editing a piece the whole day, then night, nodding off at the couch at 5am, just to wake up few hours later to finish our creation.

now, what’s remarkable, is that we are not doing it for the reason that we have a deadline or vast backlog so that we are forced to work after hours. indeed, we have deadlines, the backlog could always be lesser and we do want to catch up. but the real answer is, we are being artists at times.

Notice that I say “being”. I would like to believe that most of us aren’t artists, even though many would like to call themselves that. instead, we are being artists for an hour, day, maybe even a week. a process which hopefully will make us true artists at some point. To me, to be an artist is to always see the world around us in a distinctive way, transcend the evident and observable. To me, it’s way more than creating something here and there. It’s to persistently explore the universe, the humans, furthermore experiencing ourselves, which will then allow us to communicate our vision better to others.

coming back to the topic (i often go for a walk), when we create a piece in post (editing suite), we immerse ourselves in a story we’re trying to impart. we loose ourselves in it to the extent, that we would work countless hours at the time. we don’t want to let it go, as the concept is in our head already. it’s hard to put it away to start over the next day when you’re not there anymore. therefore, we will skip the lunch, go through without dinner, whatever it takes to keep the paint from drying.

don’t be worried though. it doesn’t happen all the time and we do remember about healthy, fed and rested.

when i think about it more, i’m kind of glad. if truth be told, that means that we have more to do with being artists, true artists, something we ultimately really want to be. we see it since we have the urge to create and the call to craft. but we know it also given that we start seeing what’s around us differently.

i deem the fact we loose ourselves time and again in making art, makes us better people and gets us closer with other people. Needless to say, we actually get more sensitive.

at times, it takes too much time. agreed. family, friends… at the end of the day we have to always find a balance.

and that balance comes in a form of lack of inspiration. everyone gets it for a day, week… it’s normal and it gives us all an opportunity to refresh ourselves and energize our bodies and minds.

so are we working too much? not really. and next time you call the studio at 3am, don’t be surprised if one of us answers the phone asking you: what should i do for the ending? J and u can call us workaholics, we ain’t them though, we’re just being artists…

so you survived this long introspection. I hope that as a reward you learned a little where we are coming from and what drives us. it’s just a start and we will be writing more about our work, our inspirations and BTS. please, also tell us what you would like to read about on our blog.
